So you think you can dance part 3
West coast swing. That was to be tonights one hour lesson at the community center. They have a calender online that tells us what styles of dance will be taught each night of the week. They typically mark them with (B) and (I) so we know which style will be taught at the beginner level and which at the intermediate level. Tonights had no such marking--just the mention of some special guest instructor and lots of exclamation marks.
I didnt know what west coast swing was. I was pretty sure it would be nothing like the beginners level east coast swing I had learned. A quick poke on youtube and I saw some beginner steps that looked vaguely like what I had learned for east coast swing. What the heck, Ill go.
I sat like most folks on the perimeter of the gym-now-dance-floor. Catchy music was blaring. Folks continued to slowly stream in from the ticket line. Twenty feet out from me was a couple who were clearly experienced at whatever dance they were practicing while we all sat or milled about waiting for the event to start. I felt a thump in the wood floor. I watched the feet of the couple. Was it her big heels? Was that part of the dance move? No, it was the wirey-haired gal to my left who thudded the toe of her bulky shoe roughly in time with the music.
A guy walked; I recognized him from my distant past.
I stared for a long time at the foot work and spins of the dancing couple. Was this west coast swing? I had trouble picking out a pattern. Eventually I wandered by them and asked what style they were doing. "West coast swing," she replied. Wow. Was I up for that? I was thinking No. I continued my wandering, heading in the direction of the exit. I crossed paths with the guy and said he looked familiar; had he worked at IBM? He remembered my name and told me his. Yep! Fun to chat with him and get caught up. I told him I was having second thoughts about this dance, that it looked more complicated than I was up for. But after talking with him, I thought Id stick it out.
Shortly after, the announcements started and we were split into beginner and intermediate groups. The gal leading the beginner grouped asked for a raise of hands of those of us who had never learned west coast swing. I was one of the 15 out of about 40 of us there who raised my hand. Another of her beginner questions got my hand up, too. Then she said, "This is one of the two most difficult dances for newcomers to learn." She went on about how it took her three times (lessons, I assume) till she was able to remember the moves herself.
She grabbed her male partner, called out, "Heres what well be starting with," and did a highspeed set of dance steps. From her mannerisms and style of speech that shed used minutes earlier to have playful interaction with the gal leading the intermediate team, I first thought she was just doing that to freak us out and make us laugh with tension--thats something I would have done as an instructor, then reassure students that, no, we werent really going to do that.
But then she repeated some steps in slower motion and asked us to follow. I followed once. Simulteneously, I thought it through. The full thought was "I really dont want to expend the energy to learn this thing which looks confusing to me already." The short version was "Im not up for this." And so, as she repeated the instructions and asked us to repeat the steps, I stepped out of the ring and headed back to the ticket table. "After seeing what what theyre doing tonight, I realize Im just not up for it!" We had a pleasant exchange with my assuring them Id be back another time. Got my money back and headed on home. I was already sleepy enough to pull over somewhere and take a nap. Yep, not the right evening for west coast swing.

If you receive the following message during the installation of Skype for Business, you will need to resolve this requirement.
�Prerequisite not satisfied: Before you install Skype for Business Server 2015, you must Install an update for Windows Server 2012 R2. For details about the update, see Microsoft Knowledge Base article 2982006, IIS crashes occasionally when a request is sent to a default document in Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2�

If you receive the following error when running this hotfix, the may be some prerequisites required specifically to install this hotfix:
�Windows Update Standalone Installer: The update is not applicable to your computer�
Windows Update may even show that your server is already up to date, but you�re still likely to have to install these manually. You can confirm a missing prerequisite using the Windows Event Viewer e.g:
�Windows update could not be installed because of error 2149842967 when running the file KB2982006-x64.msu�
Looking at this in a comical way: To install Skype for Business you must install KB2982006, but to install KB2982006 you require KB2919355, and to install KB2919355 you need KB2919442. Each time you try to install a prerequisite without its own prerequisite being met, you will receive the very helpful error �The update is not applicable to your computer�.
So to ensure smooth sailing, install things in the following order:
- KB2919442
- KB2919355
- KB2982006

Snapshot standby database is a fully updateable standby database created by converting a physical standby database into a snapshot standby database. A snapshot standby database receives and archives, but does not apply, redo data from a primary database. The redo data received from the primary database is applied once a snapshot standby database is converted back into a physical standby database, after discarding all local updates to the snapshot standby database.
1. Configured flash recovery area, check database flashback enable, must enable it if not.
SQL> alter system set db_recovery_file_dest_size = 2G;SQL> alter system set db_recovery_file_dest= /db_recov;
SQL> SELECT FLASHBACK_ON FROM V$DATABASE;
2. Cancel managed recovery mode on physical standby database
SQL> alter database recover managed standby database cancel;
3. Convert physical standby database to snapshot standby database
SQL> alter database convert to snapshot standby;
4. Recycle the database:
SQL> shutdown immediate
SQL> startup
SQL> select open_mode, database_role from v$database;
You can see database enable for read/write operations
5. Convert snapshot standby database back to physical standby database:
SQL> connect / as sysdba
SQL> shutdown immediate
SQL> startup mount
SQL> alter database convert to physical standby;
SQL> shutdown
Start managed recovery process:
SQL> alter database recover managed standby database disconnect;
SQL> select open_mode, database_role from v$database;

Researchers from Microsoft studying to develop a "smart bra" measures the mood of women through sensors to feel the heartbeat, with the aim of helping women to avoid a lot of food caused by psychological stress .
Sensing tools can send alerts to the smartphone with a message that help women to make better health decisions instead of eating in order to soothe the soul.
The detection of these plans in a research paper published by five researchers from Microsoft titled "Food and Mood: Just-in-Time Support for Emotional Eating"
The study looks at the possibility of helping women to find out if she really hungry or eat for emotional reasons, other studies show that many people turn to foods rich in calories when they are worried or feel bored or frustrated.
The research team said that this is the first study to our knowledge exploited sensors that can be worn to measure emotions, and bra is the perfect way because it close to the heart and allow data collection of electrocardiogram (EKG) in a better way.
Microsoft spokesman said that the scientists will do further research on this innovation especially in terms of battery, thats where preliminary tests showed that the bra needs to charge every 4 hours, the spokesman added that they are continuing to work on this innovation to be turned into a commercial product suitable for women and men as well. While Windows Server 2016 has not been a supported operating system for Skype for Business Server 2015, there have been no shortage of people testing out Skype for Business installs on Windows Server 2016. After all, Windows Server 2016 has been out for quite some time now, and many admins are eager to get their shiny new Skype for Business environments up on something newer than an OS with "2012" in the label. 2012 was 5 years ago, after all!
There have been some recent developments in this area, though. While the developments are promising, I still see a bit of personal confusion as to whether or not Windows Server 2016 is actually a supported OS or not. Lets start with what the promising new developments are.
The February 2017 CU, which is actually CU 7 if you are counting, includes a very important fix that addresses silent install failures for Skype for Business Server on Windows Server 2016. Good news, right? Here is the link to the February CU for Skype for Business Server 2015:

Ok, great! Time to install on Windows Server 2016, right!? Well, that depends. If you are looking for an announcement from Microsoft that the specific issue with silent install fails has been addressed, then you need to look no further than the above KB. However, if you are looking for a giant green light from Microsoft stating that Windows Server 2016 is supported, that KB article and the associated CU article stop short of saying that.
So how do we find out for sure? Well, we goo look at the TechNet page for Requirements for Skype for Business Server 2015, or course, and drill down to Software Requirements:

Look at the table of supported operating systems, we see the below:
Clearly, Windows Server 2016 is not listed as a supported OS. Further, if you look closely at the text below the box, you see that we are told explicitly not to use an OS if is not listed in this box. However, in the very next box below this we see the following caveatd Note:  This adds a bit of confusion, doesnt it? It tells us that while Windows Server 2016 is not in the list right now, Microsoft is planning to add it as a supported option with CU 5. If you recall from above, we are currently at CU 7, well past CU 5, and yet Microsoft has not added Windows Server 2016 to the list of Support OSs in the box. This begs the question: Is Windows Server 2016 actually supported for Skype for Business Server 2015 installs, and this TechNet article is just a case of Microsoft documentation not being updated with the most current info, or is the fact that the box is not updated a sign that Microsoft is not ready to give a fully "Green Light" on Windows Server 2016 yet? In either case, what is clear is that if you are in the group of people that really need that explicit Green Light of supportability before moving forward, it does not appear that Microsoft has signaled it yet. Stay tuned, and I will update this blog post as Microsofts documentation changes to shed more light on this topic. |

I went from my original idea towards another design, I think this looks "cooler", little bit more advanced maybe and easier to see through as well. See printscreen below:
- The layout will remain more or less the same as I am planning at the moment.
- Site uses iframe, so when upload is running you can still browse and chat, etc without interrupting the process.
- There is a progress bar for the upload, only visible when you are actually uploading a file, will be quite handy when/if I make the upload work properly.
- The chat is working fine. Moved it to separate page, so there is no excess drive/CPU usage when not needed.
- The shown page above is the "About" page, when connected users get redirected to the Home page. My idea was that everyone can build a short Home page (that will be shown in the frame, so no hassle) and show that first to anyone who joins. A little info, etc.
- Browse for files is also working as far as I could tell.
Work needs to be done on:
- Upload script is not working at the moment. I have been trying to make it work fir the past few days in my free time (dont have much apparently) but there seems to be an issue with the php script handling the upload. Also need to allow php in the lighttpd settings, dont remember if its allowed by default or not.
- Also trying to add a scrip that would detect mobile browsers from phone for example. These would be redirected to a simpler site. Not because of bandwith usage (no intenet plan used) but because of convenience. Maybe original, simple setup or something similar.
- If I can make the upload script work, I might consider adding a function of uploading multiple files at a time, still in question.
- I will test the design with as many computers as possible, iPads if I can get them etc. and see if it works OK.
This is just a quick update to say I am working on stuff, but because of the lack of time I am not progressing super-fast. Also I have to learn a lot in the meanwhile about css, html, scripting etc, so yes...Ill keep you posted.
If anyone has any ideas or questions (really...any) feel free to share/ask. Also as soon as I have a working "beta version" of my design I will upload it and post a link here.

Some of the changes I�ve noticed in summary
- Obviously Skype colors and styles
- The Home/Dashboard screen is Upcoming meetings, Recent Conversations & Search Contacts
- Favorites Contacts are in a �grid� format compared to Lync �list� format (uses tablet width more gracefully)
Some critiques
- buttons/areas for changing between Home/Dashboard, Contacts, Dialer/Voicemail and Change Presence screens are fairly small buttons
- Changing between screens is not 1 click (Home/Dashboard, Contacts, Dialer/Voicemail and Change Presence screens)
- for example: changing between contacts and dialer navigation is back, then dialer instead of just tapping dialer from the contacts screen
The new Android client uses a grid arrangement for contacts as opposed to the Lync list format for contacts. (as shown above)

Favorites and other lists
The Skype for Business Android home screen has areas for Contact Search, Upcoming Meetings and Recent conversations. Microsoft is calling the home screen the �Dashboard�.
The Active Call window looks very �Skype�.
Change presence.
Dialer has new colors, but otherwise looks like Lync.
Looks like Microsoft is doing some nice work in bring Skype for Business branding and features to Android.
